Inglewood Care Centre was built in 1963. Although it has been updated over time, its 230 long term care beds cannot meet West Vancouver’s current or projected needs.

Many families face the prospect of needing to find housing for their loved ones in communities that are farther away, such as Surrey and Langley.

As well, Inglewood currently does not meet Vancouver Coastal Health design guidelines for quality of care and health and safety standards.

Our community’s population is aging and its complex care needs are increasing. As housing costs continue to go up, there is a recognized need for suitable, affordable housing and social supports.

Moreover, it has become clear that team members face a challenge commuting to West Vancouver to work at Inglewood. Providing affordable suites to team members represents a clear benefit to Inglewood employees, their families, and the residents they care for.

The proposed synergistic combination of long term care, independent living and affordable housing will be a game-changer for West Vancouver residents wishing to age in place. It will go a long way toward achieving the key objectives set forward in the West Vancouver Official Community Plan (OCP) – providing significant social, economic and environmental benefits to the community.
